Moscow Today is Still a Very Nice Place Despite Sanctions
We have been here for a week, and our initial impressions are that Moscow is very clean, hospitable, and moderately unaffected by Western sanctions. Despite being the most sanctioned nation in the world, the Russian citizens and the Russian government appear to be doing just fine. Gas prices are a little lower than in California and food stores are stocked with a decent selection.
We took this video from Red Square and the Eternal Flame, located at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Red Square, situated at the heart of Moscow, is one of Russia's most historic and iconic sites, dating back to the 15th century when it served as a marketplace and a central hub for political and social events. Over centuries, it has witnessed numerous significant moments, including military parades, political demonstrations, and royal ceremonies, symbolizing the nation's tumultuous history. The Eternal Flame, located at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier beneath the Kremlin Wall, was established in 1967 to honor Soviet soldiers who died in World War II. It stands as a powerful symbol of remembrance and patriotism, with the flame continuously burning to commemorate the sacrifices made for Russia's victory and sovereignty. Together, Red Square and the Eternal Flame embody Russia’s rich historical legacy, blending imperial, revolutionary, and wartime memories into a lasting national symbol.
