Sal Alberti, CPA, Announces Candidacy for Nevada County Auditor-Controller

Nevada County native and California Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Sal Alberti has announced his candidacy for Nevada County Auditor-Controller, pledging financial integrity, transparency, and independent oversight on behalf of county residents.

Alberti brings decades of high-level accounting and finance experience to the race, along with deep roots in the community he calls home. A graduate of Pleasant Ridge Elementary, Magnolia Intermediate School, and Nevada Union High School (Class of 1987), Alberti went on to earn both a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Accounting) and a Master of Science in Accountancy from San Diego State University. He began his career with one of the “Big Four” global accounting firms in San Jose, where he developed a rigorous foundation in auditing, compliance, and financial reporting, including auditing the State of California.

Alberti held senior accounting and finance roles in the semiconductor, security software, and medical device industries—fields where precision, regulatory compliance, and ethical standards are non-negotiable. His professional background in public and private companies includes overseeing complex financial systems, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring organizations meet the highest standards of accountability.

As a California licensed CPA in good standing, Alberti emphasizes that the Auditor-Controller must be “independent in fact and appearance.” He believes the role demands not only technical expertise, but also unwavering objectivity and the courage to insist on excellence.

“Nevada County’s Auditor-Controller must be honest and objective,” Alberti has stated. “The public deserves clear, accurate financial information and strong internal controls that safeguard taxpayer dollars.”

Alberti returned to his hometown to help care for an elderly parent, reaffirming his commitment to family and community. Since returning home, he has served on the Nevada County Grand Jury, where he participated in oversight of local government operations and public agencies. He also has served as board secretary for his local road association since 2019, representing 78 neighboring properties. In this role, Alberti has earned a reputation for listening carefully, explaining complex issues clearly, and approaching challenges with fairness and diligence.

Friends and colleagues describe him as both highly intelligent and approachable—a professional who combines technical mastery with a neighborly demeanor. While personable and collaborative, Alberti is clear that public finance demands rigor. He has pledged to uphold the highest ethical standards and to address any deficiencies in internal controls or reporting practices without hesitation.

“Transparency for our community and a commitment to financial integrity are not optional,” Alberti said. “They are the foundation of public trust.”

Alberti and his wife live on a small farm in Grass Valley, where they care for seventeen goats, chickens, and two wild rescue donkeys named Brian and Tipsy. He says that returning to his hometown has only strengthened his resolve to serve the people who shaped his life and career.
