Shauneen Gracey Announces Candidacy for Nevada County Treasurer-Tax Collector in June 2, 2026 Primary Election
Gracey currently serves as Assistant Treasurer-Tax Collector in the Nevada County Treasurer-Tax Collector’s office, where she has worked for the past 13 years. Her extensive experience in public finance, tax collection processes, and office modernization, combined with her deep, lifelong connection to Nevada County, positions her as a strong candidate for the role.
The Treasurer-Tax Collector manages county funds, collects property and transient occupancy taxes, invests public money under the Prudent Investor Standard, and ensures transparency and accountability in financial operations.
Current Nevada County Treasurer-Tax Collector Michelle Bodley, who is not seeking election and will be retiring at the end of the year, has endorsed Gracey, as has former Nevada County Treasurer-Tax Collector Tina Vernon. Gracey is honored to have garnered the support of Bodley and Vernon for her candidacy.
“Shauneen Gracey has been an invaluable leader in our office, driving modernization efforts like our new TOT software and the countywide ERP system, while maintaining the highest standards of integrity,” Bodley said. “I am proud to endorse her as the next Treasurer-Tax Collector—she will serve Nevada County with dedication and excellence.”
Vernon added:
“As the former Elected Treasurer for the County of Nevada and having worked side by side with Shauneen for ten years, I know that Shauneen will serve the county with the utmost integrity, will continue to be an excellent steward of taxpayer funds and will be a working and available elected official.”
Gracey attended local schools in the Nevada County, culminating in her graduation from Nevada Union High School. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration Management and launched her finance career at the age 16 as a bank teller. She also holds several key certifications, including Certified California Municipal Treasurer (CCMT). She has led important initiatives in the office to ensure accurate property tax collection, implement and optimize core software systems, and strengthen treasury cash flow management. Her leadership in these areas has enhanced cross-departmental collaboration and improved operational efficiency.
Gracey is active in the community she seeks to serve, holding the position of board treasurer, among others, for multiple local nonprofits, is a contributing member of Grass Valley Rotary, and a volunteer with various other local organizations.
“I’m running for Nevada County Treasurer-Tax Collector because our community deserves a leader who manages tax dollars with unwavering integrity, transparency, and care,” said Shauneen Gracey.
“As a born and raised Nevada County resident deeply rooted in the place I love, I’m committed to ensuring our county’s financial resources are handled with the highest standards of accountability. I will bring my proven track record in public finance, innovative modernization efforts, and compassionate community focus to secure Nevada County’s shared future.”
Gracey’s vision for the office includes promoting complete transparency through online investment reports and community forums, ensuring fair and compassionate tax collection, adhering strictly to prudent investment standards, and advancing innovation in online portals and payment systems.
“Nevada County deserves experienced, trustworthy leadership in the Treasurer-Tax Collector’s office,” Gracey added. “From my early days as a bank teller, to appropriately managing millions in public funds, I’ve spent my career building and earning the trust needed to be a solid steward of our taxpayer’s money. I will take this trust to the next level as your Elected Treasurer- Tax Collector and take an oath to deliver honest, competent, and caring service to our residents.”
